Can I see your book?
Yes, absolutely! Let's meet in person so you can take a look at my book and we can discuss how we should shoot. This will give us a both a better idea of what it will be like to work together to achieve the perfect photos for your needs. We will discuss whether you are looking for commercial, theatrical (film and television), or other publicity photos for marketing your career. At this meeting we will go over what you need to bring and/or prepare for the day of the shoot.
Do you shoot on film or digital?
Either. You choose. I recommend digital. I shoot digitally with the top-of-the-line Canon EOS 5D. The warm richness and depth of digital photography has now equalled that of film. The main benefits of shooting digitally are quantity, efficiency and immediacy. You will get a greater number of shots to choose from than film and you will get to take home the digital files on a CD the day of your shoot. If you prefer film, I shoot on 35mm film with a Canon A-1. With film, you will still receive a high-resolution photo CD with all pictures digitally scanned within 1-2 business days.
Should I get color or black & white photos?
I recommend color. Nowadays, 100% of commercial and more than 50% of theatrical casting is done via the internet, therefore, a color photo is more eye-catching on the computer screen. Most agents and casting directors prefer color. Theatrical agents and casting directors are currently requesting color photos. I recommend you shoot in color as you can always turn a color photo into black and white very easily, but not vice-versa.
Do you shoot indoors or outdoors?
I prefer to shoot with natural light, therefore I shoot mostly outdoors, giving us a wide range of locations to suit your individual needs.
How long will the photo session take?
It varies according to your individual needs and preferences, but I would plan on 1-3 hours on average.
How soon will I receive the photos?
DIGITAL: Within the hour, I will burn a CD for you to take home after finishing our shoot, or to pick up/receive later that day.
FILM: Approximately 1-2 business days, after which time I will contact you, and we can arrange for you to pick up your photo package (proof sheets, negatives and CD).
Do I get to keep the negatives?
Yes, you keep everything. For digital, you will receive high resolution files on a CD to take home with you the day of your shoot. For film, you will receive all negatives, proof sheets (contact sheets), and a CD with all high-resolution photos digitally scanned (approximate 1 business day later).
Do I need a make-up artist?
For women's headshots, I recommend you do your own makeup and hair the way you would for an audition. It is extremely important for you to look like your headshot. Therefore, I want to shoot you the way you will look when you attend auditions. If you absolutely cannot do your own makeup and you would feel more comfortable having it done for you, we can arrange for makeup at an additional cost. For men, again, you should look the way you look when you attend auditions. Therefore, for most men, no makeup is necessary.
Where should I go to get my photos printed and reproduced?
I will give you the names and contact info of an excellent photo lab and reproduction house.
